In traditional Japan, a woman’s social status was expressed through the way she wore her kimono and styled her hair. Every detail carried meaning — from the length of the sleeves to the form of the hairstyle.
The image of a geisha wedding symbolizes liberation, granting the geisha recognition of her individuality and humanity within the rigid social structures of old Japan. It introduces a sense of freedom and personal identity into a world shaped by precision, ritual, and tradition.
A few years ago, I visited an exhibition of Japanese kimonos in Wrocław, which deepened my appreciation for the cultural codes and symbolism embedded in clothing and appearance.
